Lifejackets are a must, as the ride goes beyond Sosua bay and into open sea on the beautiful coastal scenery of Sosua and Alicia beach. The Banana boat ride is family friendly, suitable for ages 10 or older. There is also a donut boat ride for 1-4 people, operated by the same provider. This tour can be booked with Correa at +1 (849) 248-3116.

The Sosua banana boat tour is available from 8am to 6pm, departing from the East or West side of the beach. You can prebook and have it ready on any day of the week, except on Easter Weekend when boating restrictions are in place in Sosua Beach due to the massive influx of travelers that particular weekend.

Alicia Beach in Sosua is a postcard perfect stretch of golden sand that began to form in 2003 with sand carried by the marine current of the Atlantic Ocean, in a gradual process that took several years and that at first did not attract attention since there was a high cliff where the waters exceeded five meters in depth. Locals talk of the times when Sosua was a Jewish Refuge in the 1940’s and this location was a jumping cliff, also a place where the locals came to relax and feel the ocean breeze.

Playa Alicia is located in the heart of El Batey, the main district of Sosua. Anyone can walk to it within 5-10 minutes from the Casa Marina resort, Pedro Clisante Street, La Puntilla or any other area located near the center. Take Dr. Rosen street and walk it all the way to the end, where you find the large portal monument at the entrance of Alicia Beach.

The Casa Marina beach in Sosua is the third one past the main beach and Alicia beach, nested in a small cove where the beach resort with the same name is located. It stretches to about 131 meters (429 ft) and has the Sosua By the Sea Resort to the East, and Casa Marina Resort areas to its West. It is fairly easy to reach from anywhere in El Batey. This beach can get deep only a few feet into the waterline, so we recommend it for good swimmers.

The Casa Marina beach has no vendors, and is used mainly by the resort guests staying at the hotel. This makes it less attractive to those that expect services available such as drinks, food, tours, etc; It is worth a visit if you are doing some hopping just to get to know all the local beaches. Right next to it we find the Imbert Beach, which eroded and was recovered by building a jetty.

High Occupancy in the Dominican Republic

The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) reported that for the period of Easter 2022 the average hotel occupancy rate is 74.6%, figures almost similar to the years prior to the pandemic.

Rafael Blanco Tejera, president of Asonahores, said that the tourism industry continues to grow remarkably, showing results with solid numbers from a recovery process that has been the product of the joint effort developed with the authorities.

“The tourism sector will continue to strengthen its operations to increase the response capacity demanded by the number of visitors we receive each season and continue to contribute to the economy and the chain of productive sectors,” said Blanco Tejera.

The destinations that are leading occupancy are Punta Cana and La Romana/Bayahibe, each with 88.2% occupancy. Samaná continues with 79%, Boca Chica and Juan Dolio with 71%, Puerto Plata with 66.3% and Sosúa/Cabarete with 55%.

Asonahores specified that it will continue to promote initiatives that allow expanding opportunities for expansion and investment in the Dominican tourism product in order to increase the number of tourists who visit the country.

Their jewelry section has a very good selection of rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces made of amber, blue pectolite ( Larimar ), seashells, ox horn and other native materials. Oil paintings are basically tropical beach themed, from local Dominican artists, and also some Haitian art.

Handmade mortars and vases with ornate carved designs sit next to African masks, painted plates and other handcrafts built of the hardest woods found in the island. The store is right next to the Casita Azul bar, easy to spot when entering the beach via the Batey side.

Veal roulade with zucchini

As in most German restaurants, the sausages are also varied: Bratwurst, Turinger, Wiener, Bockwurst, Beef sausages. A swiss dish made famous in Germany, Schnitzel, is also in the menu. And there`s a part of the menu just in German: Rinderroulade, also spelled Rouladen, (a German meat dish, usually consisting of bacon, onions, mustard and pickles wrapped in thinly sliced beef which is then cooked ).

Also Schweinebraten (roast pork), Konigsberger klopse (German meatballs), Bigos (a Polish dish of finely chopped meat of various kinds stewed with sauerkraut and shredded fresh cabbage), Sauerbraten (a German pot roast that can be prepared with a variety of meats).

There`s also Thunfischsalat ( German Tuna Salad ), Gefilte Paprika ( a Jewish dish made of carp, paprika and other ingredients ), Kotlet (a delicious Iranian version of ground meat patty). He also does niño envuelto ( Cabbage rolls) a dish with its origins in ancient Greece but found in many countries.

The Beef menu offers Scaloppa ai funghi (pork steak with mushroom), Cotoletta alla Grigia (grilled pork chops), Cordon Bleu (ham & cheese stuffed porksteak), Bistecca Milanesa (breaded pork cutlet), Involtino ai spinacci, and Scaloppa Gorgonzola.

You can walk just a few steps down to the beach and trust this reviewer, it is incredible. Montanara restaurant also has chaise lounges by the water where customers can sprawl and be served while sipping on their mojitos holding hands, taking in the beach scenery, the swaying palms and the ocean breeze.

The Fish menu is purely gourmet, and by this point we wonder if this restaurant will rise to the top in the list, this is serious. We tried the Mahi fillet with zucchini and green salad, took about 35 minutes waiting but it was worth it while we enjoyed drinks and the relaxed beach atmosphere.

Garlic sauce shrimps are also on the Montanara menu

The fish selection starts with the Fried calamari, also has the grilled shrimps, fried fish (DR style), Shrimps in garlic sauce, grilled Mahi fillet, and Mahi au vin and pasta. If we are to rate Montanara, we could be sure to say this is a truly gourmet restaurant in Sosua Beach, clearly number one in its category.
