By Joel Rodriguez was born in Santo Domingo, in 1962. He has been living full time in Sosua since 1989, and has his atelier at Sosua Beach. He studied art since age 14 at the school of great arts, and since then, it has been a non stop visual journey that has taken him through numerous exhibits and activities.
Entering his studio we were faced with a large format collection of paintings depicting a sexy model with near perfect lips and voluminous hair, a real model, he said. Perfect pieces for any fine residence, or a hotel. The rest of the display was custom ordered portraits, and other art showing Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Hendrix, Marylin Monroe and some nude works.
Recently, Joel was selected for the Sosua en Colores project, an initiative that created colorful murals around neighborhoods to bring back a fresher perspective to tourists and locals alike.
