Silvio`s Gift Shop

Silvio`s gift shop is one of those beach souvenir stores where travelers to Sosua can find a lot of native art, which is a favorite among Europeans and North Americans. The topics are as varied as the artists he represents, so we can see Taino art, marinas, African and even wood and stone sculptures of Taino gods and slender female figures.

There is also a display of handmade necklaces and bracelets made of leather, seashells and other interesting materials, with many color combinations. The right wall displays a set of Caribbean-design Tshirts; A lower section with Panama hats, DR-themed baseball caps and decorative plates and jiguero lamps. Other interesting items are custom-design tequila shot glasses, wooden jars and ornate decorative items for coffee tables, etc.

John`s Gift Shop is the third in line when coming towards Sosua beach from the main entrance of El Batey, easily reachable right after the Casita Azul bar. This store front displays colorful beach wear, wide brim hats, local art, crafts and the ever present Dominican Mamajuanas (bottles with roots, to prepare the drink made of wine, rum and honey).

Inside, the store has a table display with lots of Jewelry made of Larimar, the ( blue pectolite) found only in the DR; shell beads, cow`s horn and other materials that produce high quality necklaces, rings and earrings. A wall has a set of African masks made of wood, and also DR sun masks made of leather.

Another display table has a selection of wooden boxes, Taino figures and Jicara lamps. Next time you walk by Sosua Beach, stop by this store if you need to pick up a quick beach item.

Fatima`s gift shop in Sosua Beach is the very first one you find when entering the beach down the main entrance stairs ( El Batey side, near the hotels ). It is one of, if not the largest one in size. They offer a wide assortment of beach items such as towels, Panama hats, baseball caps, beach wraps, hammocks, handmade crafts, jewelry, local art and decorative pieces.

The store also displays a good number of Taino-related crafts such as plates, wooden figures, ashtrays and clothing. For collectors traveling to Sosua there are hundreds of collectibles in small size; from bottle openers to paper weights. Mamajuana bottles and wooden mortars for mofongo are also on display for sale, hot items among tourists.

Daniel`s Beach Gift Shop

Daniel`s Gift Shop in Sosua beach is about the 5th souvenir shop from the main entrance of El Batey, a colorful facade of beach dresses, hand made purses and beach wear. Large sized, DR-themed beach towels hang at the entrance next to beautiful beach wraps that draw the attention of beach goers, and once inside, the visitors face a wall with plenty of native art to fill a gallery.

A center table in the middle of the store uses the side panels to display intricate African masks, metal lizards and Dominican collector plates. On top of it, the jewelry selection has it all to find the proper match of a hat/beach dress combination.

On the left wall, tall wooden mortars sit next to wooden photo albums and other interesting souvenirs that will remind travelers of their vacation in Sosua, for years to come. A stand of fishing hats and baseball caps offer a quick grab for those seeking to protect their face from the sun.

Alfonso`s Gift Shop in Sosua Beach

Alfonso`s gift shop is one of the largest beach souvenir stores in Sosua Beach, and its facade is just as promising. The salesman welcomed us and toured us around the store, eager to let us promote his business on the social networks and this beach portal.

To say there`s almost everything a souvenirs store must have, is an understatement. There are hats, caps, local art, jewelry, beach wrap dresses, hand made bags, shades, cow horn handworks, wooden Taino figures, pottery and a selection of t-shirts to prove you were in DR ( a joke ).

The Larimar selection looks serious, and there`s a lot of raw stones of the blue Pectolite to prove it. Rings, earrings, beads, an pendants that would make any woman very happy to own. An assortment of leather covered bottles of Mamajuana of various sizes are being offered to those who believe in its “powers”.

Wooden elephant heads and colorful, thin metal lizards hang from the shelves edges, inviting the visitor to bring them home as souvenirs of their Caribbean experience in Sosua beach.

Berto`s Gift Shop

Berto Martinez gift shop in Sosua Beach has a permanent collection of local art for sale in display, also handcrafts, pottery, Larimar jewelry, hats, DR motif caps and other interesting items normally found in beach souvenir shops. His Larimar earrings and necklaces are gorgeous, and the semi precious stone is also set on leather wristbands.

His souvenir and art store is located on the main street ( Gregorio Luperon ) the one that leads down from Pedro Clisante to Sosua Beach; just before getting to the parking area. He also has some art in display on the wall facing the store on the other side of the road, where he`s usually found talking to tourists and inviting them into his gift shop.
